Great jump... one thing I noticed and I hope you will as well. Watch the tracking of his left heel through the run. Through the majority run its pretty standard, but on the last step, he exaggerates, more than anyone I have ever seen, the slide step takeoff. It makes him super quick off of the ground but seems a little weird... thoughts?

I am not very familiar with Otto's jumps, actually this is the only one I have ever seen. But it looks like he ran himself under and cut the last step to make the jump. I would need to see other jumps by him to compare.

he always is under. i watched him at 2 meets in germany, and now this video. his tendency is def. to be under, if i recall the general take offs were between 11'9 and 12'3. but he does have a super quick last step and a really good rise off the grouns

I saw him in Hof Germany capping 5.10m, 11.something flex

im not sure if he was using the same set when u saw him, but when i talked to him in cuxhaven he was on a set of cut down 5.10s, i think they are cut down to 5.0m

this is a great technical jump..

this is the "physical" version of a "free takeoff" even though he doesn't "LOOK" like he is out..

the excellent penultimate allows his body mass to move up at take off and attack the pole before it "smacks" him and throws his hips toward the box..

i have seem many of bubka's jumps look like this at the take off.. bubka was just faster and the penultimate became more subtle...

this is the point where petrov said.. "for a moment" the vaulter will not feel the pole.. and at that moment the vaulter should "reach" higher with the arms.. but because of insecurity many vaulters "clutch" and bend the arms ... killing the benefits of a "high" takeoff...

give Otto more speed and he could put up some numbers...

That is not a "Free Take-off" if it where free the pole would not be loaded while his left foot is flat on the ground. He is over a foot under! I don't no if he meant to be or not but he is. Are we even looking at the same video?

Bubka may have run his step under and finished the jump and it may have looked similar. But I have also seen Bubka take-off free and the pole was completely straight after his left toe was off the ground "free"!

Please don't cloud the water here. A truely Free Take-off will not have the body and pole in support of the ground at the same time other wise it is not free.

i THINK what he means is that the penultimate step never comes very high off the ground. this would enable him to take a very quick last step and be super tall. bubka also did this extrememly well..
