Some news from Europe,
Second in the present global rankings, Malte Mohr from Germany with an impressive 5.73 (~18'10) from a short approach (12 steps) in a legal competition in the middle of december.

It would be interesting to see what it brings if he can keep this efficiency and consistency in full approach jumps ! Next comp in Rouen in two days (26th of january)...

He is a BLOCK TUCK and shooter! He will not jump 20' with that technique where ever he takes off!!!!

I don't see that much block or tuck, pretty continuous swing and keeps the hips rising. Pretty solid jump I'd say.
On a whole new level 6-20-09
Re: Malte Mohr 5.73, short approach (12 steps)
His full aproach is 14 steps so it makes sense.

He's indeed sort of a short-run jumper, but to be fair it's more a 16 steps run (at least in major competitions).

Yeah you're right. I just remember when we trained together, he did pretty bad from 16, was jumping 520-540, then went to 14 and started jumping 570+. Maybe he got used to it later on. I see some other videos as well.
Re: Malte Mohr 5.73, short approach (12 steps)
good morning,
pay attention to the "MID" (six steps from the take off) and move it "out" proportionate to the grip and speed obtained from a longer run and any/all jumpers can be successful and jump higher with longer, 14, 16, 18 and even 20 step runs… increasing the speed and contoling the "check point" (from 6 steps) is what was taking place back "in the day" when vaulters were commonly using 20 stride approaches…
we need very badly to get back to that… if we want to jump 20 feet..
his technique is great and "by" physics….
Keep it up..

absolutely ridiculous post. malte has already jumped 5.90 which makes him one of the best jumpers of all time. only one person in history has ever jumped 20 feet, its not the end all be all of pole vaulting. theres no tuck in there. its a sweet jump.

Every body is entitled to there OWN opinion!! First, i NEVER said it was a bad vault, it's just not the way to vault 20'! Fortunately , your opinion of me doesn't mean anything to me! Have a nice day!!!!
