im having a big energy problem when i vault. it seems like i have a good amount of energy and am awake all day and then i get to practice and have trouble standing up. i get around 9 hours of sleep every night and just dont know what it is. any kind of foods/drinks i should try to take more of to give me some more energy when practice time rolls around. also... could it be that i am vaulting everyday? should i take a light day every other day?

Pole Vaulting every day is too much. You should be vaulting no more than a few times a week. Two or three days is sufficient to prepare for any competition. On the other days you should be doing basic drills, speed work, or maybe working on other events that you compete in.

yeah i've been thinking about that. i wanted to ask something else though... what should i eat at lunch on days we have a meet? obviously my choices are somewhat limited but what kinds of things are going to give me good energy and make me feel good when vaulting time comes around.

What you eat on meet day is not going to affect you much since it will take longer than a few hours to digest it. Some things you can do that I have found to help out tremendously:

    Multi-Vitamin every day
Diet should be high in carbs
    Lots of water every day
snack on fruit and energy bars through out the day

i drink an Ensure about an hour before working out or competeing so it keeps your energy up...you might want to give it a try because it does work.

Check things out in this order.

Am I over-training? Your body will tell you when you are doing too much; it is wise to listen to it.
Am I getting enough sleep? - and it sounds like you are.
Am I drinking enough water? - Dehydration will sap you like nothing else.
Am I eating enough of the right kinds of food? - This can range from just lazy eating habits to actual eating disorders which are killers.
Do I have a vitamin deficiency? - Check especially for anemia.
Do I have strep throat?
Do I have Mono.?
If you cannot find the problem after looking at all of these issues, it may be something more serious and you need to keep looking till you find out what is wrong. Good luck, and I hope this helps.
