Practice Plan?

A forum to discuss overall training techniques, nutrition, injuries, etc. Discussion of actual pole vault technique should go in the Technique forum.

What do your typical daily practice schedules look like? What drills do you do and for how long?

15-20 minute general warmup (includes jogging, dynamic stretching such as arm circles, leg swings, bar twists, running drills like A's and B's, carioca, cycles, and 2 build up sprints the length of the runway) Sometimes we throw in light hurdle mobility also.

25-30 minutes drill work - depends on what that individual vaulters needs the most work on. Could involve plant drills, swing drills, takeoff drills, turn drills, etc...

45 minutes of actual vaulting - 1 day a week strictly long run, 1-2 days of shorter runs for technical work - I consider short run anything from 2-8 steps or 1-4 lefts. Long is 10-14 steps or 5-7 lefts. Don't have anyone running any farther than that, don't need to.

15-30 minutes gymnastic and core strength - mostly high bar and ring stuff including pull-ups, wipers, bubkas, 1/2 bubkas, L-ups, knee-ups, muscle-ups, pullovers

5 minutes static stretching

lonestar, I don't know many drills by name. Is there a descriptive web page or something that would explain these to me? If not, could you provide a description? Thanks.

We start out at Exactly 3:30 with a warm up jog. then we go do general warm-up things (high kees, butt kicks, lunges things like that). then we split up into three groups; sprinters, distance runners, and throwers. whe then do our workout with them. when where done we do our jumps.
