Can Elliptical trainers be good for developing speed. I am using it for cardio right now and its pretty wicked. But has anyone used them for working on speed? just wondering.

I dont think the eliptical machines can really be effective for speed work. It's good for cardio\fitness, it prevents shin splints but for real speed work you need more running\lifting.

I also heard that too much eliptical can actually damage your stride. That is if you use it excessivley ( usually XC runners..) this is what i've heard..

You could probably use it every once in awhile. You can also use a stationary bike for speed work...I did it a few times over the years...when your legs are injured, you have to improvise! You probably dont want use it all the time...there is never not magic pill! It may take some stress off of the legs. But nothing beats speed work on the track!
