There are so many skills that can help the vault. Here are few that have helped me.
High Bar:
-Giants
-Back hip circle
-Back Free hip circle to hand stand
-Kips
-Pull over no touch
-Back/Front Uprise
P-Bars
-Kips
-Swing to handstand
-Swing to handstand and piroette (spelling?)
Rings
-Swinging
-Burn
-Swing to handstand
-Muscle up
-Muscle up forward/backward role
-Levers
-Back Uprise
-Front Uprise
-Pull Overs
Those are some good strength ones to get you started. Floor and trampoline are also very usefull tools, I'm sure other people will post tons of stuff, so I didn't want to be to long winded, I am no expert. But if you want to know some floor and tramp just ask.

I liked the clip where they showed the women gymnasts in a pike position using only their arms to climb the rope.... not many girls can do that!

i don't have any gymnastics experience as well. I can barely do a cartwheel
...what are things I could do off-season? would it be a good idea to get a gymnastics teacher?

body awareness is a key factor in all sports especially ours. If you learned to walk on your hands, then maybe handsprings, all the basics of tumbling, rolls, cartwheels, all these things will help you become a better athlete. If you can, learn to do a giant, and get on the high bar and play around.
there is a good list already on this link.
