I think my best is about 12 handholds. One of my (male) vaulters last year could get all the way up the rope at gymnastics, but it was probably only 20' tall at best.

We used to do about 20 feet or so, go up upside down, do 3 or 5 bubkas on top, and back down still upside down. that last 10 feet is probably 10 times harder though....

wow

This was the very first vault related drill we ever learned/did in the late 60's. We did it after practice out at Rice University. Probably 20' though, not 30'. I have our kids do it now on a 15' rope. Bubba

In all fairness, being an Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics is a little different than being just any girl walking down the street ;)

However much respect you think you should have for an Olympic-level gymnast, I can guarantee that if you coach one in the vault for a couple of years, you will respect them much more.

Used to do it all the time in college. twice in a row for three sets. the other vaulter used to call me monkeyboy. The only explination I have as to why I could easily do it was I grew up hanging from a water ski rope.

upside down
