Ok so I'm training in Leverkusen right now with the best Germans, and they have so many different training machines for pole vault that it's unbelievable. Here is an example:

As a trainer you first have to pull en then brake the movement of the counterbalance. Definitely don’t forget to do the last thing cause your athlete has a serious problem.

This is only one of them. They even have a machine to do the whole jump without running!

Now that would be a great Masters event!

Well at least if your buddy lets go, you will swing back down to the mat. If that pole breaks you're dropping straight down on the floor!

I don't know how valuable any of these things are. They just seem to introduce passive phases in your technique and motions associated with moving dead weight...unless of course you are that slow that you are dead weight then they may be good for you.

Anyway, I can't think of a German whose technique I'd like to copy personally.

I do want to see the full vault machine in action though. Sounds perfect for old fat guys.

That's a pretty harsh statement. They have two six meter vaulters and they have a lot of other excellent vaulters. Considering their population, they really have a lot.

And for the technique - I think you are wrong. They do have different technique than Russians, but it is proven to be effective. Especially in consistency.
