Man.... so i guess if you can't stiff vault 12' from 6-steps out you must be really un-athletic! my stiff-vault grip from 6-steps out maxes out around 12'2" in the pit and i am 5'9". Maybe i should put the pole down and start working out.... even though i managed to hold 14'6" and push to 16'10".

I can barely knick the rim, for what it's worth.

I'm not saying I am a super athletic person, but it would be a GROSS underestimate of abilities to say that because you can't grip 12' on a stiff vault, you are a 14'6" max for life. I take some offense to that, considering i am living proof you are greatly mistaken.

Thats awesome 3 foot blow gripping on tiny poles. Reminds me a lot of McCorkel when he came out of high school. For your sake I hope you can move up to 15'6 and 16'1 poles and move your takeoff out to mid 13 and 14' range, which in return means you need to have the athleticism to grip mid 13' on a stiff pole from 6 steps and get into the pits.

Yes you can do a lot correct and get nice blow but you still won't be able to rotate longer poles safely. There are exceptions to every rule, but in the end if you can't grip over higher from 6 steps on a stiff pole your going to be limited on how high you can jump. Therefore yes athleticism is a key component you can't just vault.

Athleticism determines your potential practice and your technique determine what you do with it.

I think your advice would have been perfect for me since I'm gripping 15ft on a 16 ft 195 weighing 190 and jumping 17-8. I'm not getting better unless I get faster (on the runway) But then again I can get faster by improving my run technique so training needs to be a balance of strength and technique. However when trying to improve fast any male who jumps under 14 is going to see the quickest and most permanent improvements by improving technique.

Agreed. Also the 14-16 foot range. But in your case KC, I also think this applies ... given your SAME speed run, I think it's going to be your technical changes in your vault (more Petrov, less tuck/shoot) that will get you over 5.50+.

Run. Plant. Jump. Stretch. Whip. Extend. Fly. Clear. There is no tuck! THERE IS NO DELAY!
