I'm with lonestar as well. We did a nice easy jog to get things going. Then we did some very basic static stretchs to the major muslce groups. Then we went on to the dynamic stretches with everything that lonestar mentioned. Its worked great for me and my athletes for years...

I have just switched this season to a more dynamic warmup. I have found that I feel less fatigued, even through longer practices. I also feel more ready to run when I do dynamic stretches, as opposed to static stretching, and then having to take awhile to feel really warm. I would recommend a more dynamic warmup to anybody.
Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali

Iv recently swtiched to dynamic warm-ups as well  , and it seems like its more work as you do it, but you feel much better afterwards, and less tired when its time to jump. I used to be able to do half an hour of statics and still not feel loose enough to jump.
What have you done today to get better?

I have always perfered static stretching, dynamic stretching never seemed to work as well. Never had a problem breaking a sweat during a slow strech session too. One very important thing i learned after shreading my hamstring in HS (takeoff leg, 3rd degree strain), was the value of NOT overstreaching. In wrestling we stretched till pain, cause someone else would if we didnt. I learned to stretch without pain and wramup properly and now have few muscular injuries thereafter

There's actually scientific research that claims static stretching before fast-twitch based activity can actually decrease performance. The argument is that muscle fibers have a certain degree of elasticity, and that static stretching in a sense creates slack or decreases the elasticity, so muscles don't respond as quickly, making you slower.

Sounds to me like dynamic stretching would be better for the "ol fart" set that I belong to. Where would I find a list of warm ups and pictures to show what they are. Alot of the terms that you all use I haven't got a clue as to what they are. Thanks kids..............Later..................Mike.
