The story continues... I spent last Monday and Tuesday at a pole vault camp where, although I controlled the effort I put into the drills, I didn't limit it enough. I did more damage to my gastrocnemius muscle. After I got home and there was more swelling and discoloration, I went to the doctor who prescribed physical therapy. This morning I saw the physical therapist and he informed me my condition was just shy of him sending me to an orthopedic surgeon. He said there isn't anything he can do as treatment until the muscle heals more than it is. So now I'm taped to restrict muscle stretching and will continue with the icing 3 or 4 times a day. I'll see him again on Wed and then Fri. He has told me I will not be recovered in time for the National Champs, but I might be able to compete at a reduced level if things go well and I have an appropriate tape job. But even with that, I run the risk of doing more serious damage with a much longer rehab time. So now I will just have to go with how my body heals and responds to treatment. At some point I will have to make a decision whether the risk of further injury is worth participating in the Champs. I'm getting my mind ready to accept the probable answer that it is not. :(

Not to worry John, I'll see you at Reno. I'll still count your steps after I go out. Take it slow and don't forget about the 60 to 70% deal. Later........Mike
