ice bath and calf massage

tape arches, don't wear you spikes except to vault, run in the grass bear foot when you do you running,

these are what I do, you just have to find what works for you

see to me all the suggestions thus far pretty much serve only to ease the pain but not solve the problem, I would suggest doing those IN Conjunction with heel walks, toe raises, spell ABC's with your toes, etc. ive heard taping your arches have helped, also, but ive never tried it. all i do is make sure not to pound my feet too hard and i wear a wrist band around my leg where the shin splint hurts, it really helps ease pain and provide comfort.

1 word: orthotics

Cured mine overnight. If you can't afford to see a foot doctor, go to a running store (not one in the mall, but a real running store) and see if they either custom build or sell insoles to correct pronation or supination problems, which are what cause shin splints.
