This might be a little off topic, but I'm curious. In the early 1970s, I had a couple of injections of codeine shot into my knee and into my back (on different occasions). This was administered by the team doctor, and was injected to eliminate the pain for a couple of "must win" NCAA competitions. I realize now that it would have been preferable to just sit out and let myself heal naturally, but that option wasn't considered at the time.
My question is ... is codeine on the banned list today - even if taken topically in small doses to relive acute pain? Or if banned, is it OK to use it well before a comp where you're tested? Pardon my naiivity ... I just don't know today's rules against performance enhancement drugs very well.
I realize codeine can be highly addictive, but I never got hooked. And quite frankly, drugs weren't even banned back then. Just wondering if I was playing with fire back then.
