fell in the box.. heel bruise?

Unread postby whoadude42 » Sat May 31, 2008 4:59 pm

yesterday at practice the pole stood me up. i was an idiot and didnt hold on.. i came down in the box on my right heel. It is really painful and i cant put any weight on my heel at all. it feels a little better if i walk on my toes though. it also sort of shot up my shin and hurts there too..
is it just a bad bruise? or something else..
how long will it take to get better?

Ice it and wrap it. RIGHT NOW! Then take some aspirin or ibuprofen to help with the swelling. Stay off of it for a few days, and if you don't see any improvement it could be something serious, so you should see a doctor. Worse case is it's a subdermal hematoma and a heel fracture.

Listen to Powerplant I did this same thing back on Apr. 5 and i was out for pretty much the rest of the season with a fracutred heel because i didnt let it heal right and kept running on it! But i would go see a doctor if it still hurts in a few days because it might be worse than a heel bruise. safty first.

I did the same exact thing 3 years ago... and guess what, I'm just getting back to training. It ended up that I fractured my heel in multiple places. It was not fun at all, but I really hope yours is much less severe.

Good luck :)

yeah always roll when u hit the ground... I did the same thing at beginning of indoor so apparently this is a common injury for pole vaulters. I Iced and rubed asperncream on it and walked on my toes for about a month... It hurt for a good 3 months afterwards but i could pole vault after like 2 weeks because I sprint on my toes and really couldnt notice as long as I was sprinting.

Or try the split... I do that a lot. Just aim each foot for their respective front bun. I'm not very flexible and that hasn't hurt me for real yet.
