Two Questions:

1) Why are the open athletes competing on Sunday? People gotta work on Monday!!

2) Are you considering bringing the Elite Men's competition back? There are some quality vaulters in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region. It would be a good show.

Nick,
To answer your two questions, we have the Open comps. on Sunday
to accommodate a larger group of vaulters that the event was started
for..........high schoolers.
If we had the larger group (high schoolers) on Sunday, it would stretch
into the early evening and we would not be able to break down the entire
event, load it onto four trucks, transport everything to our two storage
locations, unload those 4 trucks, store everything and then return the
trucks to their rental locations.
We know this from experience, as we didn't finish all the above until
4:30 in the morning two years ago! From that point on, we knew the
"short day" had to be Sunday!
As for the inclusion/exclusion of Elite Men's vaulters, there are a few
reasons, not the least of which is finances. In short, when we had no
Prize Money, the Elite Women supported our event (most prominently,
Janice Keppler) and the Elite Men told us they would NOT come until
there was Prize Money!
My partner Bob Amos and I feel it is the right thing to do to offer the
Prize Money to the Women, since they not only supported us and our
event, but they are quite often overlooked by other events who do offer
Prize Money to the Men, to the exclusion of the Women!
In closing, Bob and I are intensely loyal to those who support us and
who have contributed greatly to making the Vertical Adventures Jersey
Jumps Beach Vault a resounding success!
I hope I have adequately addressed your concerns and please feel free
to contact me with any other issues, questions, etc.

See You @ The Jersey Shore! Mike Pascuzzo, Co-Meet Director

What will the opening height policy be, particularly for open competitors? Some people have not jumped in quite a while and their PR may not match up with what they are currently jumping!

Thanks!

Hi,
Our starting heights are consistent with MOST Beach/Street Vaults, meaning
Vaulters may begin 18 inches under their PR. This policy requires honesty, as
the day can easily turn into a 14 hour marathon if people claim a lower PR to be
able to start at a lower height.
Believe it or not, we've had a few over the years. One vaulter claimed an 11'6"
PR, but then jumped 14'6". When questioned, he SWORE he didn't lie. No one
believed him AND he was roundly jeered by the crowd of onlookers, who were
waiting more than 90 minutes for their Division to begin!
I hope this helps and remember, Beach & Street Vaults are MORE than just a
Meet!

It's hard to hide a PR these days, with internet publishing of meet results, and with meet officials having smart phones. Vaulters don't just arrive from the back woods, unknown to all other vaulters in the field. They've set their PRs in public meets. SOMEONE must have known this vaulter's true PR, but helped him hide it by staying quiet. Just sayin'.

Oh, by the way, he deserved to be booed. What vaulter in his right mind starts 3 feet below what he's capable of vaulting?

I wonder if limiting a vaulter to a dozen (or so) vaults would improve the flow of the meet, to be fairer to all?
