A camp for elite high school vaulters???

Unread postby altius » Mon Feb 25, 2013 10:40 pm

Kris Allison and I are considering running a camp for elite high school vaulters - from around the USA - on July 1/2/3, at his facility in New Braunfels, Texas. At the moment we are seeking expressions of interest in such a camp in one of the most attractive holiday destinations in Texas, so that families could perhaps combine it with a brief vacation.

We are ideally looking at boys jumping 15’ plus and girls jumping 12’ plus (note that this is still under discussion and open to feedback) who want to make the next step in both performance and their understanding of the vault so that they can have more input into their future development, whenever and wherever that may be. Naturally we would be happy for parents and coaches to attend.

The idea was first spawned by the number of requests I have had to provide feedback to athletes in what one might term the super elite high school category –ie 16’ plus. However it has been reinforced by film - both on Utube, PVP and even Facebook - of many high school athletes at this level who would clearly benefit from modern ideas on vault technique. Finally the need for such a clinic was reinforced only today - 26/2/13 - by a young athlete in the college lounge section of pvp, lamenting the fact that he had not improved even after four years of dedicated training. We believe that if he had really understood the Petrov technical model he would have improved no matter who his coach was.

As many of you will know Kris is a very successful coach at all levels of the event while I will merely claim to be the best teacher of the Petrov/Bubka technical model in the world. The facts speak for themselves but note "teacher" not coach - and I am prepared to have that claim corrected by anyone who can provide the evidence!

Naturally we would be happy to incorporate discussion sessions for coaches and parents.

Folk who might be interested in this idea should contact me at --- altius@bigpond.net.au - as soon as possible so that we can decide whether or not to go ahead with it.
Its what you learn after you know it all that counts. John Wooden
