Houston-Area Pole Vault Clinic, Saturday, November 5th

Unread postby lonestar » Mon Oct 31, 2011 12:43 pm

WHAT: A Hands-On Pole Vaulting Clinic

WHO: For beginner, intermediate, and advanced pole vaulters of all ages, men or women, boys or girls. Clinic is led by Lone Star Pole Vaulting Head Coach Kris Allison and his Assistant Coaches, as well as Coach Jeremy Dye of Seven Lakes High School.

WHERE: Seven-Lakes High School: 9251 South Fry Road, Katy, TX 77494

WHEN: Saturday, November 5th, 2011. 2pm-6pm. Arrive between 1:30-2:00 and do general warm-up independently before 2pm so we can use every minute possible to work on vault-specific training.

WHY: To quote my coach, mentor, and former National and World Champion vaulter Doug "Bubba" Sparks: "The best vaulters at all levels train all year. To think a complicated and physically demanding event can be learned with less is ludicrous."

HOW: In a series of clinics such as these (which we are holding every 2-3 weeks through December), we use each vaulter's first clinic to assess his/her ability and needs. I make notes regarding each vaulter's most crucial element to improve upon. With each subsequent clinic they attend, we assign vaulters into groups by ability-level and teach skills and methods to improve each individual's specific weak-areas.
New Vaulters to the Clinic: we will assess your current skill level through participation in fundamental drills and short-approach vaulting, then group you by ability-level and progress to longer approach vaulting with remedial drill-work as needed.
Returning Clinic Vaulters: we will assign you into ability-groups and integrate vaulting over bars with drills, skills, and technique-work to help you improve your weak-areas.
POLE TESTING: For interested athletes, parents, and coaches who have their own poles and need help in selecting the right size pole to fit them, we will set up a "flex testing" device that measures the relative stiffness of any pole in comparison to poles of other lengths, weights, and brands. The advantage of doing this is to better fit vaulters with the right pole and/or examine whether they need additional poles to complete a "series" that best suits them.
While clinics are primarily hands-on vaulting and drills, we will break occasionally to discuss important need-to-know topics such as pole selection, rules, safety, strategy, and training.

COST: $40 May pay in advance online via PayPal for $1.60 fee or CASH-ONLY at check-in at the clinic.
