I wanted to let everybody know about a new vault facility opening in Kansas City. It was built and will be operated by Olympic Pole Vaulter Doug Lytle. It's located close to I-35 I-635 intersection. There is an open house this weekend.

The open house is from 12-4 on Dec 6, 2009 and will feature an area collegiate Jumping Exhibition from 2-4

Just looked at the photo gallery on the site of the facility.

WANT!

Do you think Doug would mind if me and my family moved in?

He would probably love for you to come down. He set up living quarters w/ private bathrooms for both elite vaulters and the bunk room for camps for the very reason you said.

There is plenty of room for kids to run around!

He is currently setting up a camera system to record 6 different camera angles for a single vault. He is going to have this all hooked up to a computer system where he can replay everything on a big screen right after your vault.

Doug Lytle has built a fantastic indoor facility!

I was wondering what technique he might be coaching his camp participants, so I watched his vid here: http://xtremeathleticskc.com/pole_vault_training_video_doug_lytle.html.

From what I can see, Doug discovered the secret of the Continuous Chain of Motion at a very young age ... and long before that Theory was published ... there is no noticable pause or hesitation as his swing becomes his extension ... it's one smooth motion!

I doubt that he called his technique the Petrov Model back in 1984, but it is certainly a close approximation of it.

I think there's quite a bit of "proper" technique that any aspiring vaulter can learn from Doug at his camps!

With the excellent facility and the coaching and the hi-tech cameras ... and the central US location, KC should become a PV mecca!

Congratulations on the new facility, and all the best in the years of coaching there to come.

Was looking around the web sight just out of curiosity and reading the coaches bio.
It looks like he had some success as a vaulter about 20 years ago or so.
But I couldn't find out where he had previously coached or if he had ever coached or at what level....

This new facility is just a 49 minute drive (according to Google Maps) from Todd Cooper's http://www.justvault.org site in Excelsior Springs, MO. The Kansas City area seems to be a real hotbed for vaulting! How many other US cities can boast 2 vaulting facilities like these? Is there really that many vaulters in KC?

I would say Vault in the KC area has been picking up interest. I'm a coach at a 6A school (SMNW) on the KS side, I normally have 20+ kids come out for vault each year. There are numerous strong programs in the area like Gardner, BVN, SMNW, Mill Valley, BVNW, the entire Lawrence area, SMN. So I would say there are plenty of vaulters.

Also Darrin Bryant has a indoor vault facility in the KC Metro area... www.vaultmidwest.com Rick Attig (BVN) always has stong vaulters and also has numerous camps that brings kids from all over, and the KU camps w/ Tom Hays are always going on.

There are also quite a few colleges with vaulting programs within an hour or two of the KC area.

About 20 years ago in KC there were over 15 vaulters who made the qualifying to attend the Olympic Trails from KC.
ALL WITH IN about 50 miles of my office Fibersport there on Bannister road.
We all worked out together and jumped in Gardner at the pit in the back yard of Jeff and George Buckingham.
Most of the vaulters used My FiberSport pole and came to the garage to flex their poles!
So you might have a few vaulters give back to the community there in KC!!

I tried to look at this, but it's a dead link.
