When you went from straight poleing to bending what was the key thing that just clicked to get you bending? or was it a slow prosses alsow what height were you at?

If you are correctly strait poleing (the thing you should worry about) bend comes with moving up the grip height to a point where the pole allows it. From achieving a bend I went from 9'6 to 11'6 in one meet.

If you try and bend the pole your most likley going to end up blocking your botom arm. Thats a pretty bad habit to try and lose.

The key is just a strong plant, bend is from good form, not strength.

i ened my frosh season with 9ft (no bend) on a 13'1" 140lbs pole holding very low on it............the 1st day of the next season i said "hell, i want bend" so i grabbed a 12'1" 135 lbs pole at the top and got uber bend.........i couldn't believe it iwas so happy.......so the 1st meet i went from 9ft to 10' 6" ........
your question.........i was daring.......took a chance

I dont remember the height i was at when i started bending but i know it started from holding higher on the pole and planting above my head better.

You
pull down on it? To bend? How in the world does that help you with your vault?
Sorry, I just can't wrap my mind around how that helps you. I would think it would...well, I
know it would screw me over, but maybe for someone who trains differently...who knows?
When doing
something like Tamaqua Vaulter does, we always push against the pole and practice having a strong plant... when doing this, the pole should arch away from you.
Does anybody else have comments on this?

yea.. maybe u need a bigger pole?. i kno we had a 10' pole at this one place i jump at and the only way we can even rock back on it fast engouh is if we take a 1 step approach. i kno all the real short poles, unless the weight of them is liek under 100 are kidna stiff i think?.
also search on the forums for it.. there must be like a zillion kids asking the same questions and the reason no one really answers anyone is becasue its been asked soo many times.. i myslef know nothing but im sure u cna find some real advice?.

This seems amazing to me. If I understand correctly, you are able to "stiff pole" vault gripping at about 13'9" without bending the pole, and get safely into the pit. How much do you weigh and what is the weight rating of the pole you are using? How tall are you?
It would seem to me that if you have the kind of speed, take off and form required to stiff pole that grip height, then you should easily be able to bend a correctly sized pole.
