Unread postby polevaulter737 » Tue Mar 15, 2005 9:29 pm

i'm a girl in 8th grade and I can clear about 8'4" right now. I can do all the turning drills imaginable perfectly, but when I get up to vault- practice or meet, bar or bungee- i just can't do it!! i've tried for over two years now! HELP!!

I think Thats a good Idea. thats what I did for a while to get the turn down. Another way i got it was by trying to get verticle, and i just turned automatically

if you can turn in drills (such as grass vaults etc.) you CAN do it in the air. easier said than done, right? my suggestion is to take it slow, and start with 0 step jumps onto the front bun. then 2* and 4*. once you got it from four, i bet you can do it from 10*

jump high

*note: steps, not lefts (or rights) :D

Try using your knee drive to start your turn

if you lose your knee 'too soon' - right off the ground, or just as soon as you start to swing - it makes it more difficult to turn. Have your knee start the turn and see if this helps.

turning drill

Unread postby TheAmazingJimmyT » Wed Mar 16, 2005 7:47 pm

the best drill i did to turn was to hold onto rings or bars or something upside down, like ur on a pole, and just turn ur hips from there, and pull urself up a little as u do. if that doesnt work, i could give u some other ones too.
