hey board! im a junior and this coming spring will be my second season pole vaulting. last year was rather unsuccessful and frustrating and id really like to have a good season this year. basically my problem is b/c im so muscular, i weigh a lot and since i weigh a lot i have to use a bigger pole (i jumped on a 150 last year). the bigger poles are harder to bend and even though my legs are really strong i dont have as much upper body strength and i had a really hard time getting my pole to bend and b/c the pole wasnt bending i had no time to swing my legs up and turn and all that, since the bend is what buys you air time. so basically i would plant and have a very minimal amount of time to pull my legs up, get to vertical, and turn to go over the bar so i usually ended up crashing into the bar b/c i hadnt gotten my legs all the way up or i would go over kind of sideways w/ horrible form.
i guess im wonder what are some things i can do to help me a) bend my pole and b) get my legs up quicker
i know lifting and building upper body strength will help + core work so i have strong abs to pull my legs up...anything else?
thanks!
