Hello forum goers.
I'm 15 years old, a sophomore in high school. I have no prior sports experience that's particularly useful in this case [7 years soccer, did gymnastics for like.. a year, then decided it wasn't for me.]
I haven't played sports all through high school, and my brother a varsity football player convinced me to try out for track, mainly since I'm too small for football. I'm 5'8, 140 lbs, and couldn't decide what to do. So I thought polevaulting might be something fun. I know nothing about the sport, I haven't even talked to our coach about it yet, but I'd like to at least go in there understanding SOME things so they don't count my out right away. What are the essentials a beginner needs to know?
thank you all in advance.

Go in there and say "I want to pole vault because i used to be a gymnast and i can listen and do what coaches tell me to"
The greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph
