All I can tell is that the third one is gripping more appropriately and jumping 'up' more. None of these are executed what I would call 'well', though... not a single one stays behind the pole!

I have to disagree with PP. Suprise Suprise. But I actually think whoever was in the first video was doing the drill excellent!!

To answer Becca the main difference that i saw is that the guy in the third video had an extremely narrow grip. 2- He drags his tip. 3- He doesn't get into the C position as well (trail leg doesn't come back very far) and he loses his hips prett fasy after takeoff.

I totally agree.

Perhaps I was fooled by the low grip... I was sort of rushed posting my previous comments. It is executed pretty nicely, although I would have them raise their grip by about a foot and a half.

OK watch the sand vaulting from 10:15-11:25, particularly the ones where she is not swinging.

And tell me what differences you see between that and the videos I posted originally.

Her leg extends out behind her much more, along with keeping her hips behind the pole.

The main difference is the execution of the take off, video 1 is extremely poor technique.
As previously mentioned, video 1 displays vaulters not staying behind the pole ( practicing bad technique).
Where is the coach???????????? :dazed:

The main difference is the bottom arm, in video 3 both hands are together over his head.
It is impossable to stay behind the pole with that technque.
In Video 1, you can see the bottom arm colapes mainly due to the speed they are trying to perform this drill at.
Video 2 you will see some good technque, staying behind the pole, three left run up and holding high on the poles( not runnung through the pole).

Thank you for posting David Butler’s video.
After viewing the video, my son and I went to the track practiced some sand vaulting drills.
My 13 old son technique look pretty good and was able to hold the pole at 12ft with a three step approach.
First day on the pole for him, next step the leg swing.
Is there a place to post videos for coaches to review without getting bombarded by bad information?

good morning

this exercise should be taught and used with every vaulter, especially beginners before they have ever swing into the pole vault pit.

I always used it for at least three weeks prior to letting a new vaulter vault in the real pit…

Teach them how to run by approach runs on the track…

Teach them how to run and PLANT with this “sand” drill..

Teach them how to swing on the high bar…

Then teach them how to RUN… PLANT….SWING with a stiff pole 360 “pop-up” in the pit…

Do them in OEDER and at an 8 or 9 level of perfection and DO NOT move to the next exercise until that level is reached.

If you do these “simple” exercises to perfection you will have great pole vaulters…

Everyone should try it themselves one day and move from one to the other…

Great video of a coach and vaulter doing what has to be done to perfect the plant technique, pole drop and takeoff.
