I'm going to be home a lot during the summer, so I had planned on doing a running/swimming combo each morning (4-5m running and then 45ish minutes of swimming) to start off the day. For school I'll be doing cross country in the fall, either cross country again or swimming in the winter, and of course track and field in the spring.

Every night, I do an ab/arm workout, just a bunch of crunches/situps/variations and pushups/handweights which I was planning to continue during the summer.

What can I do during the time between the end of this season and the beginning of spring track next year to prepare so I can try to start getting inverted right away to really increase my heights next spring?

Running distance will not help you with speed try to do more sprint workouts.

I'm kind of in the same boat as him, except I plan on doing weight training class for the beginning of the year and then doing winter track pole vaulting. Hopefully by then I'll be fit enough for spring. Does anyone know what I could do during the summer as to training for pole vault. I'd like to try going to a camp, but most are really expensive. Do you think it would be wise of me to ask my coach to give me access to the vaulting poles over the summer and try solo training?

No. Do a search on this board for the word Delaware. I know there is a club that was looking to start in that state. It's a small state too, it doesn't matter where the club is, you can't be THAT far away.

The best way to improve your pole vault is by practicing the event with a good coach. There are a number of clubs and camps in your area. If money is an issue, get a summer job or figure out some way to start earning money to save up for them.

Where do you live? If you live on the east side of Pennsylvania, you've got Vertical Assault, fiber benders, slippery rock, and Hip Athletics (it's in New Jersey)

I was planning on going to Vertical Assault (I live in southeastern PA, so it would only be like 4min away), but I'm having surgery in late June - nothing too major, but pole vaulting probably wouldn't be the best idea...I'd want to wait at least a month before doing something extreme like that. So yeah, money/location isn't a problem at all, and I plan on going to Vertical Assault next summer, when I'm in the condition to do so.

I found out that my school has Winter Track & Field, but I doubt we'd vault that much, considering the weather and the fact that we don't have an indoor pit.

No, not at all. At this level, you should never vault without a coach. I know that if my coach has to go somewhere for a few minutes during practice, we're not even allowed to vault...not even the really experienced vaulters.

Well, this is my first year true, but I have come a long way. I'm clearing 9'0 and almost 9'6. My coach doesn't really mind if I do workouts by myself vaulting.

I want to do a club, but most of them are really expensive. I'll try searching for that club you spoke of though.

i am my own coach pretty much(as well as the coach of the other students in my school) the only coaches on our staff are football coaches so i'm usaully vaulting alone or with other students.
