1yeldud1 wrote:Probably a dumb question - BUT how can a coach know what the mid mark would be for a vaulter he or she has never seen. If a person has short or long legs would this not affect the stride length and mid point ??? If there is a formula to back up this methode PLEASE fill me in on the details as I would like to know. Thanks

There's a list that has all of that worked out. I am not sure if it is posted on the internet or not. Kris or Devereaux can explain it a lot better than me.

Check out Dave Johnston's article on the six stride mark and the chart he has developed on the Advantage Athletics page. One should consider these mid and take off as a baseline mark. The athlete will be able to move his or her (dosen'nt matter) pole to verticle using this chart. Each athlete will bring something to the event that may improve or alter the individual's marks, but as a baseline it is remarkably effective. Try it! It may surprise you. Actually, try it and let me know if you had an improvement in your step placement.

thanks ladyvolpv

the take off WILL be determined by the reach height of the vaulter.. but the mid is based on speed.. the mid to grip chart is the result of 30 years of data and physics.. stride length is determined by speed not physical height. so mike tully (6'-4") and duplantis would both have the same mid for a 16'-4" grip.. + or - a touch..55' for 6 lefts.. 6-5-4-3-2-1-TO.. how effective they are on the swing would give them a 19' or higher jump..
