New to pole vault technique critique

Unread postby 150halfmiler » Sat Nov 14, 2020 9:13 pm

I'm gripping my pole at about 12 feet but when I plant my drive or lead knee straightens on the way up and I can't keep it driven forward. Should I try compressing the pole more with more upper body? Im 5'10 weight 146 lbs if that matters. The pole I'm using in the videos is a 13' 145lb big stick. Bungee height is 12'6. I've pole vaulting for the last 3 months. I've seen other vaulters who are a lot smaller than me with no knee drive but they really compress the pole with their upper body. Both arms are pretty straight out in front of them to get more height in the jumps. I've seen a vaulter who is 5'6 maybe 125 lbs no knee drive but they drive the pole so hard with their upper body they are able to get up to 15' using bigger poles. Here are two video links of my recent vaults. I was reading the forums they mentioned a lot of walking plant wall drills could help. I'm open to any other suggestions. I'm only able to use the pole vault pit you see in the videos once a week due to my current state restrictions due to covid. The rest of the time I pole vault with a hole in the ground as my box up on a hill with a pile of leaves and grass as my pit. Grip is lower for safety reasons when I pole vault on the hill. If you need more videos let me know.
