Borah High pole vaulter Theresa Waybright soared to new heights, Eagle sprinter Logan Watts discovered a new gear and a pair of 800 runners established statewide benchmarks Friday to highlight a track meet featuring Borah, Eagle, Centennial and Vallivue at Meridian.
Waybright, a junior who said she only started pole vaulting last year, won the event with a clearance of 12 feet, 3 inches - 1 inch shy of the top mark in the state this season. Vallivue's Danielle Valentine, who has vaulted 12-4 this season, was second Friday with an 11-6.
"I had a really hard week of workouts, so I wasn't looking for a (personal best), but it was nice to get one," said Waybright, whose top mark before Friday was 12-0. Her best coming into the 2008 season was 10-6.
