Rising to new heights

Getting better
Though Lindsey Bourne of Joplin's vault of 12-0 at the Class 4A state meet in 2000 still stands as the area's best, girls' pole vaulting has gotten better as a whole since being recognized as an MSHSAA event in 1999. Here's a look at the area's best so far this year:
1. Tara Diebold, Branson, 11-3; 2. Shauna Eldringhoff, West Plains, 10-6; 3. Jordan Wallace, Seneca, 9-6; 4. Amanda Miller, Pierce City, 9-0; 5. several tied with 8-6
