Veddy veddy interesteing - girls beat the boys in MA

Unread postby VaultnGus » Sat Jun 14, 2003 10:56 pm

An odd event happened at the Massachusetts state meet last weekend - Anna McFarlane of Concord-Carlisle won the girls vault with a 1st attempt clearance of 13'0. Meanwhile Thomas Simmons of New Bedford won the boys vault with a 2nd attempt clearance of 13'0. This means that unofficially Anna McFarlane is the all-around Massachusetts state champion. Yup - a gal topped the whole field. That is pretty cool I must say...

I was wondering if this has EVER happened at a state championship before in the vault or any other event where boys and girls compete equally (i.e. like the long jump or mile, shot put doesn't count 'cuz they use different weight shots, high hurdles are different distances and heights etc...)
