YORK BEACH, Me. -- On Sept. 10, two local high school pole vaulters won the high school divisions of the 2005 Beach Vault East competition.
Jordan Thull of East Lyme won the high school boys division with a leap of 14-foot-6.
Jessica Sullivan of Norwich Free Academy won the high school girls division, jumping 9-6.
Extremely adverse winds made vaulting very difficult, and few vaulters were able to perform up to their normal levels.
There were approxinately 50 competitors; about evenly split between boys and girls. Sullivan was the top female competitor overall, beating a number of college vaulters. Thull was second overall.
