Tennent's Conroy vaults to win
The Intelligencer
WARMINSTER - Having once been a gymnast, Allison Conroy knows all about the strength it takes to propel one's self well into the air.
But since there is no official pole vaulting "coach'' at William Tennent, taking on this daunting event almost by herself presented a unique challenge.
Not one to back down, Conroy, only a sophomore, has been making steady progress and Thursday night gave her best Stacy Dragula impersonation, soaring a personal-best 9-6 to win the event at the Montgomery Memorial Meet at Tennent.
Conroy said the key to her success is the constant work she does on her form. It's made her into probably the top vaulter in the league and one of the two or three best in the area.
"Form is a big thing for me because I don't have a coach,'' said Conroy after breaking the Tennent school record. "I'm working on getting more vertical (on the takeoff) but there's still a lot to do.''
