Pole vaulting for girls has come a long way in a short time

Amanda Oliveira needed something to do to stay in shape for volleyball.
Her coach at Bayside High School, Butch Caldwell, suggested she come out for the track team. Caldwell, also the girls track coach, figured it would keep her busy.
Oliveira wanted to find an event that would challenge her but not require a great deal of running. She found that in the pole vault.
