CURLEY PLACES SECOND AT CHRISTIANA RELAYS; ST. JOE SIXTH IN 26 TEAM FIELD

3/27/2005
Fresh off its MIAA indoor Group Meet title, fourth-ranked Archbishop Curley got off to a fast start to its outdoor season, placing second, in a 26-team field, at the Christiana Relays, yesterday in Newark, Delaware. Third- ranked Mount St. Joseph also represented the MIAA and placed sixth.

Curley scored points in nine of the 14 events contested and got a meet record victory from pole vaulter Dominic Devaud, who cleared 14'-0".

Devaud also took his place on Curley's shuttle hurdle team, which recently earned All-American status at the Nike Indoor Nationals, and joined Rob Daniels, Jesse Kolodziejski and Pat Gracey to post a dominating three-second victory.

St. Joe, which will battle the Friars and McDonogh for the A Conference title this spring, claimed a victory in the 4x1600 relay, as the team of Chris Gueno, Brendan Morrison, Steve Bergbanbauer and Brandon Chambers posted a time of 19:38.

In addition, the Gaels placed second to Curley in the shuttle hurdles, Curley's Nate Flores placed second in the discus and Archbishop Spalding, also of the A Conference, received a second place finish from its 4x400 relay squad.

Dominc is only a junior and is already outpacing his brother who jumps for UMBC's Golden Retriver. I dunno how in the world that boy has gotten so good, but its nice to see a Maryland jumper making some respectable heights. Maybe he can do some good at Nike next year, he's got one more year and maybe put Maryland on the map for pole vaulting.
