Rachel Cassata had become the talk of the meet for all the wrong reasons. There might as well have been an announcement.

"Somers senior Rachel Cassata, the top pole vaulter in the state, has just no-heighted in the pole vault and failed to qualify for the state meet," it could have said.

It won't be surprising if she has a chip on her shoulder this season.

A mental lapse was all it was. A mental lapse that turned into the athletic equivalent of a panic attack. She had spikes on at West Point â€â€
