Dan Tierney... vaulted 10 ft as a junior in hi school, then trained for 6 months straight and now he is a seinor and he is vaulting 16-6 ( amazing ) he is from Medina in newyork ... and there is this chick from the same school ( medina) who vaults 13 ft ...... check em out in nationals

add one more to the list, http://democratandchronicle.com/sports/ ... orts.shtml Nick Herman also broke my now old school record of 14-3 a week before at 14-7 and he cleared the 15-3 on a first attempt off 6 lefts. I was there taping it. He has really come along from the 13 foot vaulter I was training with a year ago.

Dan just went 16-1 at the NY State meet yesterday. results are up probably now at www.armorytrack.com but they might wait till competition ends today.

well i just think its kinda weird, 10 feet as a junior, hes got 1 more year left, i could see maybe if he really loved the sport, but how could he at 10 feet, i doubt he was even bending the pole then. thats like if you were just learning to ride a bike saying "i just gotta compete in the tour de france."
im just wondering how he made the choice to train that hard, did a coach think he had good potential, and he just vaulted in 1 bad meet or somethin. i just couldnt see an average 10 foot vaulter work and train so hard.

sorry if i sound like an idiot, i dont know a whole lot on high school PV history, but 15-10 won nationals?? the competition after states?? i wasnt sure if it was districts or if it was states, but i was watching a meet last year on TV and the winning height was 15-6, it came down to misses and attempts. and that was outdoor while it was raining, i remember then covering up the pole's tape with towels. how would an indoor nationals win at 15-10? sorry if i sound ignorant, someone please explain

yeah, im not sure exactly, but i think there are a couple of indoor meets that claim to have the status of a national meet. one is the nike indoor scholastic or something. anyway, these meets attract some of the best but not all of the best vaulters in the nation. it is a big deal to win one(i would guess. cant say that i have done it). but not quite the same as winning a natinoal championship. now, the usatf junior national meet outdoors is probalby the meet that is in fact a legit national championship rather than just a high calibur high school meet.
