Commitment to Arkansas raises bar for O'Reilly

Shawnee High School senior Danielle O'Reilly, who broke the U.S. indoor high school girls pole vault record this winter, has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Arkan-sas.
O'Reilly, who this winter won the Nike Invitational, set the U.S. indoor record of 13-5 and earned a top-25 ranking among all American women, ended a lengthy recruiting battle involving most of the nation's top college programs by giving an oral commitment to Arkansas wom-en's coach Lance Harter.
Arkansas has one of the top women's programs in the nation and is currently ranked ninth in NCAA Division 1.
Under Harter, the Ladybacks have placed in the top six in the indoor or outdoor NCAA meet six times and won 15 South-eastern Conference titles.
O'Reilly this spring has set the outdoor state record of 12-6 and placed second in the 110th annual Penn Relays.
O'Reilly, 18, has already clea-red heights that would earn her NCAA Division 1 All-America status. At this winter's NCAA meet, only four girls cleared better than 13-5.
O'Reilly, an honors student at Shawnee, has only been pole vaulting since ninth grade but competed in gymnastics starting when she was 8 years old.
