This is just to confirm that Roman Botcharnikov will be assisting at the clinic for coaches to be held at Slippery Rock University from the evening of Friday June 13th thru Sunday June 15th.

This means that this clinic will have two strands - one conducted by Alan Launder for coaches who want to learn how to introduce the Petrov/Bubka technical model to young athletes and the other - lead by Roman - for coaches who want to further extend their understanding of this model.

This will be a unique opportunity for coaches at every level of performance to gain a deeper understanding of this model, how to teach it and how to help young athletes with special talent to fulfil their potential. So coaches, you have a choice - you can spend the next ten years trying to gain some understanding of modern pole vaulting by reading the posts on pole vault power and experimenting with your own athletes - or you can come to Slippery Rock and short circuit the entire process for 250 dollars including full board. Note that we intend to organise a van to pick coaches up from Pittsburgh airport early friday evening and return them on sunday on the completion of the clinic.

I will shortly post my coaching vitae along with Roman's so that you can decide for yourselves whether we may have something to offer. This is definitely a one off and will not be repeated next year at SR.

It would help our planning immensely if coaches who are interested could contact Bill Jordan - and or myself - as soon as possible.

Will he be helping out at pits too? Not full time, but for a little while? What about you? Will you just be teaching coaches or enlightening us athletes as well? :D

I will be directing and teaching all of the drills sessions. However I hope to also get the chance to watch most folk vault when they work on a pit and to provide specific feedback.

Note that each camp will begin with a 'competition' on the Sunday afternoon to give us a chance to assess the level of athletes and the quality of their technique - hopefully these jumps will be video taped. Roman may be able to stay to watch these jumps but this depends on his business commitments.

We are lucky to have his involvement in the clinic for coaches - it will be interesting to see how professional and committed US coaches are - if they dont take advantage of this opportunity then I see little hope that the general standard of coaching will rise.

I can assure you that this will be a world class camp.

So wait, there's a competition? Is this camp going to be mostly centered on coaching with some vaulting on the side? Or just coaching?

Coach's camp is separate.

Yes it is all a bit confusing for young minds. But if you read the posts you will see that I will be involved in directing the 3 Slippery Rock Camps for athletes running from June 8th to June 26th. THEN IN ADDITION Roman and i will be running -if anyone turns up -a clinic for coaches from the evening of Friday 13th until pm Sunday 14th.

Just a thought - Would there be any interest in coaches bringing some of their better athlete -perhaps their best athlete - to the coaches clinic, with the athlete meeting just the cost of board for three days/2 nights???

I'm an aspiring coach, but an athlete at the moment...I'd like to attend the clinic if I can, but I suppose I'd be willing to take a dive as a model. I can't claim to be a very good example of the Petrov model though.
