Breaking the vault

Alex Habermehl, a senior standout for Prince George, reached a personal best and school record at the Group AAA Indoor Track Championships at George Mason University.
Talk about improving by leaps and bounds. Prince George senior Alex Habermehl has jumped off the charts after taking up pole vaulting two years ago.



The senior standout reached a personal best and school best at the Group AAA Indoor Track Championships at George Mason University on Feb. 29 and March 1. The record breaking jump of 14 feet was good enough to give him a fourth place finish and the school record which was previously set at 13 feet, six inches by Ronnie Brockwell in 1987.

Habermehl was gracious in success. He admitted to being ecstatic after his 14 foot jump but chose to hold in his emotions as to not show up his fellow vaulters who had not faired so well.
