Slippery Rock

Unread postby LHSPVC » Mon May 28, 2007 9:50 pm

So what's the scoop? I understand that the SRU camp is still being conducted, but without Hannay and Launder. Please say it isn't so! Can they still guarantee coaching of that level at future camps? What about Hannay? Anyone heard where, and if, he may coach next?

Since my name was mentioned I feel i have to make a comment. I had intended to contribute to three weeks of the SR camps. Two weeks ago i had an email from Mark Hannay saying that he was cancelling the camps for personal reasons ; he asked me to call him and I did so the next day. I tried to convince him to go ahead for the sake of the youngsters and coaches who had already committed to attending but he explained that circumstances had forced him to withdraw from any involvement and they would not go ahead.

As I understood it -and I may be wrong - the large majority of the poles used and at least some of the pads were his property so it would be difficult for anyone else to take over if that equipment was not available.

Nobody from SR has contacted me and since I understood from Mark there would be no camps at SR this year I have made other arrangements. All a great pity because they were well organised and well run camps which catered for a lot of youngsters - especially beginners. :crying:

Altius,
Thanks for the clarification. SR has left four of my kids with no answers at this point. Your right, it is a true shame that the camp is no longer. I, and many others, considered it one of the best camps to attend. It was well organized, well coached and well intended. I look forward to having my kids attend different camps that you will be coaching in the future.

This morning i had a message from Coach Bill Jordan that the Slippery Rock camps are going ahead and asking me to be involved. I am pleased that they have decided to move on but unfortunately I had to make other arrangements as soon as I was told they were cancelled. Hence my trip to the lovely city of Philadelphia, one of the few major cities of the US I have not previously visited, and to Livonia in Michigan. Best of luck to all who go to SR but they will miss Mark Hannay.
