Whats the deal with sponsors and Elite athletes? ( sounds like an intro to a sienfeld joke... :P )

Do they get paid, or just free stuff? Are there contracts signed like in other sports for "X" amount of time, or you have to compete in "X" amount of meets wearing our stuff....?

And why hasn't reebok sponsored anyone, heck, even new balance sponsors Ty Harvey and they just started making a jump spike...

just curious on what the story of it all is... gracias

Some athletes recieve only training and competition gear, some recieve travel budgets, and a few are paid enough to not have to have an outside job. Reebok has a few athletes most notably Carolina Kluft, Oly. Champ in the Heptathlon. A friend of mine receives gear and a travel budget from reebok. T&F athletes are very rarely offered multi year deals.
