Which way is Hayward field situated? Would that be a crosswind or a head/tail wind?

That is a crosswind.

A west wind is not the best at Hayward. You really don't get a crosswind so much as a swirling head to tail wind. Some ladies will be lucky and some unlucky. but the key is to be ready to go and ride the tailwind down the runway just as soon as you get it, a moment of indecision spells a rough trip down to the pit. I hope they all can make the proper adjustments. I was on the field for the guys and that is what happened in the men's final. It's a little unusual to get west winds this time of the year but the weird weather and fires in California have caused us to have more westerly winds instead of the normal North - Northwest winds we usually get in the summer and resulting great tail wind at Hayward.

True, although a west wind is modified considerably by the main stands on the west side of the track.

The weather report says west, but the arrow on the diagram is northwest and almost due north a little inland. It's gonna be a tough day out there. Look for the veterans and better athletes to have the upper hand. Good luck to everyone. I'm in San Antonio for a funeral but will be back to help record for the finals on Sunday.

Stupid question....7:10 pm for the start time, Okay. But is that 7:10 pm West Coast time? Mountain Time? Central? East Coast? Funky Indiana time?

I'm confused, but what's new about that?

Thanks,
Russ

LOL (as they say). So ODST means that it'll be 10:10 on the East Coast when they begin, I think.

Time Confusion

Unread postby roger/over » Thu Jul 03, 2008 9:08 pm

Give it enough time and even confusion can be sorted out. I assumed that, like most internet schedules, the starting time was given in Eastern Daylight Time, so I checked in for Becca's updates at 4:00 Victoria time. Nothing new happening there, so I checked in at 5:00. Nothing there, either, so the schedule wasn't Central Daylight. Just checked again at 6:00, so it wasn't Mountain Daylight. That means it almost has to be 7:10 Pacific Daylight. Or I have the wrong day. It will be an interesting further hour of confusion. Cheers
