Depends on the conditions, but I predict that 5.60 will get into the finals.

I could see this being the case as well. If it is 560, it may be big final(with ties advancing)...at 565 it might be closer to the 12 vaulters needed.
I'm going to go with 565.

My money is on 5.50. I don't think we'll see 12 over 5.60 in prelims today.

Bar Progression and Qualifying Height

Two closely-related message threads going here.
On the startlist thread, Barto asked what the bar progression would be for the women's qualifications. Vaultmd responded with, "If the games committee holds to form, it will be arbitrary and poorly thought out."
On the thread that invites guesses as to what the men's qualifying height will be, there seems to be ample evidence to support vaultmd's opinion. The qualifying requirement is 5.75m or top 12 results. How in the world did the games committee come up with that 5.75 as the automatic qualifying height? Only three USA vaulters have cleared that height this season (Walker, 6.04; Miles, 5.80; Hollis 5.75). Does the committee think that MORE than 12 competitors will clear 5.75 in this meet and thus all of those would be qualified for the finals? The seasonal best for the top 12 entries is 5.51m. Unless there is a wide-spread dramatic improvement in performance, those who have guessed 5.00 to 5.50 as the qualifying height seem to have facts on their side.

Yuk!! Did I really send 5.00 to 5.50 (above)? I had it in my notes as 5.50 to 5.55
Sorry--bad batch of new wine. I'll label this one as "Plonk Blanc."
