If that isn't a drive vault, I don't understand the concept.

I don't know about you but those seem pretty dang close.

In the first, Walker appears to keep his chin down a bit more than Bubka, but the lower half of the body is virtually identical, as is the chest drive and the elimination of the passive phase caused by a locked position of the left elbow (see pole vault manifesto by agapit).

In the second comparison Brad is about 2 frames ahead of Bubka, but I think they still look pretty close... It doesn't seem like Brad ever tries to fight the back of the box with the arms. It seems that off of the ground the right hand continues to reach toward the sky and the left arm simply stays high and moves toward the left standard, much the way Bubka's does in his 6.01m jump.

Thoughts???

Yeah, I agree on the head down thing. If his head/chest angle gets up a bit, it should improve the length tension relationship of his shoulder girdle. It think this would even lessen any passive phases. They look pretty similar in a lot of ways. No blocking for sure and really committed. I think it is interesting to so how early his left arm is pulling. That is great. You can really see the tension well before his left hands gets to his left hip. That is surely helping him continue to put energy into the system and rotate ahead. I think Brad has those long levers and so some of the mechanics are not along the same timing pattern. It appears Brad has a pretty narrow focus and a lot of confidence right now. He is a big monster on the runway and if he transitions off the ground a little cleaner/taller and with an improved angle, 6.15 will surely go down soon. Especially if he goes to altitude like Bubka did many times.

The head down and complete extension of right arm and shoulder are classic "drive". Continue the comparison and you will see Brad "tuck and shoot" into inversion. When he breaks Bubka's record, a lot of people will be adusting their models. The best comparison is on the runway where they are both incredible.

Looks like Walker could break the Record sooner than what people thought. I have been raving about this kid way back when, now he has showed up!

Good luck to him this weekend.
