good morning

anyone know what poles and grips the vaulters were using??

and you know me... i would have loved to have the 6 step "MID" of all the jumps...

maybe next big meet someone could help collect that data.....

i saw a couple of jumps in the background for the women from the TV..

i wish we could get USATF to "really" get a meet covered!!!!

Not just you. I noticed the same thing, STU looked faster, but it could have been the camera work.

Isinbayeva shines at Millrose Games

New York City, USA - It didn’t take long for Yelena Isinbayeva to etch her place into Millrose Games history at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The Russian set a U.S. all-comers record and meeting record of 4.82m in her North American debut in the women’s Pole Vault to highlight the famed indoor meeting’s 100th running on Friday (02) night.

Despite jetlag, Isinbayeva dominates

After passing the first four heights, the defending Olympic and World Champion needed only one jump to win the competition at 4.63m.

American Jenn Stucyzinski, who shared the previous world lead at 4.70, was second with a 4.53m leap, while April Steiner and Fabiana Murer of Brazil were third and fourth, also topping out at 4.53m.

Isinbayeva sailed over 4.73m on her first attempt to break Stacy Dragila’s 2003 meet record of 4.72 before scaling 4.82m on her second attempt. The former World Athlete of the Year then took three attempts at a would-be World indoor record of 4.93m, brushing the crossbar on her way down to leave her standard of 4.91 intact.

Isinbayeva, who arrived in New York on Thursday, said she was inspired by the rhythmic clapping of the crowd of 14,905 but felt fatigued from the change in time zones and felt drowsy as the competition wore on.

Brad Walker, Visa men's pole vault: "It's been a little bit of a slow start [in 2007]. I have a lower back issue, some pelvic rotation. Unfortunately that has postponed a lot of my fall training. I'm basically getting healthy to train consistently. I'm pretty happy with the results. Anytime I get a 10-foot jump, I'll take it. I'm going to Ukraine to compete in Donetsk, then go to Australia to train and compete against the Australians. This is my second time at Millrose. I was happy to take a couple of shots at the Millrose record.

Yelena Isinbayeva, women's pole vault: "I had fun today because the competition was so nice. The spectators were so warm and friendly. The support was so good. I felt good today from the beginning, but then I had some fouls and I got a little bit tired. The big time difference between New York and Russia makes me a little bit sleepy."

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Brad was misquoted here. I would guess he said 19-foot jump.
