Mall Pole Vault Returning For 2011 Drake Relays

Jordan Creek Mall To Host Event On April 27

DES MOINES - Jordan Creek Mall just finished waving goodbye to their Santa Display this winter, but another attraction is back to raise the bar: Mall Pole Vaulting. After a year off, indoor pole vaulting will make its return for this year's Drake Relays.
The event debuted at the 2008 Drake Relays. They also had it in 2009 at the West Des Moines mall. It was a big draw for some of the top pole vaulters in the world, and of course thousands of spectators who couldn't believe what they were seeing.
Meet director Brian Brown says he didn't do it last year because he wanted to keep it fresh and have people miss it. "We're bringing it back by popular demand," he announced Thursday. "We are excited about it. We hope to provide a little bit of a different look. Before, we had men only. This year we hope to add both men and women to this event and combine the male-female team and add up the overall heights and get our champion. Pretty excited about the event this year for the 2011 Drake Relays."
Brown announced the schedule for this year's Relays: Mon. 4/25: Beautiful Bulldog Contest Tues. 4/26: Grand Blue Mile Wed. 4/27: Pole Vault at Jordan Creek Mall Th. 4/28: Distance Carnival Fri. 4/29 and Sat. 4/30: - Main Competition
