Douglas pole vaulter Ben Dickens stole the show at the 2004 Florida State Championships. With his older sister Molly, a former Douglas vaulter, and father Harry, cheering him on, Dickens cleared 15-9.5 to set a state mark. Dickens, whose previous career best was 15-3 set at the Region 3-4A meet, broke the state record of 15-9.25 set by Danny Pelligrino of Tallahassee Maclay in 2002.

Dickens, normally a low-key type, started to celebrate the moment he landed on the mat. He jumped up and started pumping his fists in the air before running over to hug his sister and slap high-fives with his father, who serves as the Douglas vault coach.
