HOUSTON — Sarah Korn set a personal best by clearing 11 feet in the pole vault Saturday at the Carl Lewis Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.

Korn, a junior at Navarro High School, was one of only nine participants to clear 11 feet in the pole vault during the event.

Participating with the Lone Star Pole Vault Club, Korn finished in a five-way tie for fifth place in the event. The winner, Merrit Van Meter, won the event by completing a 12-foot vault.

Last year, Korn set the Navarro school record by clearing 10 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault at the Class 2A Region IV championships.

At last year’s state track meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, a vault of 11 feet would have taken third place among Class 2A participants.

The Navarro Panthers and Lady Panthers track and field teams begin their season Feb. 21 in Corpus Christi.

Korn and her Panther teammates will be in action in Geronimo two weeks later, when Navarro hosts its track meet. The date is scheduled for March 7.
