All eyes will be focused on Friendswood Clear Brook senior Maston Wallace in the Class 5A pole vault competition Saturday.

Wallace, a Texas signee, ranks second nationally in the pole vault. He cleared 17 feet, 5 inches at the Nike Indoor Nationals in March. Wallace trails only Spencer McCorkel of Bryant, Ark., nationally. McCorkel has cleared 17-7.

Grapevine's Monte Willett comes into the 5A state meet tied for the third seed having cleared 15-6 at the regional meet.

Aledo's Joseph Farley is the athlete to beat in Class 4A. He ranks second in the state this year with a vault of 16-7 and is the top seed. Fort Worth Brewer's Zac Givens – seeded second in 4A – should push Farley.

West's Blaine Bassler – ranked third in the state this season (16-4) – is the favorite in the 3A competition.
