WA State Meet Predictions/Results
Posted: Wed May 28, 2003 2:06 am
Zack and I are working on previews for the State Meets this weekend in WA.
Good luck to everyone this weekend! Lots of Pole Vault Power members will be competing or coaching. I will be in Cheney with the small schools, helping the King's kids. PVP mods Ashcraftpv and Robert Schmidt will be in Pasco for the 3A meet. Doria Holbrook, the girl in the upper left corner of your screen will be competing in 4A. And the list goes on and on... good luck!!
Here are Zack's predictions for the 3A/4A. I will post mine soon, for all classifications.
---
For 4A guys is Uhlenkott, Loomis, Powell and Mckane will be battling. McKane is supposedly much faster (not too hard to do for him) so he should be able to get on his bigger sticks. Powell could be dangerous after putting up 15-7 early in the season and he will be fresh because he won't
be running the 100.
Zack's picks
1. McKane Lee 16-6
Sorry no state record today.
2. Jaymes Powell 16-0
3. Mike Uhlenkott 15-0
4. David Loomis 14-9
5. Chris Smith 14-0 (I know only a sophmore)
6. Travis Kruse 13-9
7. Adam Rife 13-9
8. Tyler Dobbs 13-6
4A Girls
4 of the top 8 from state last year are back. All have jumped 12-3 or better! I wouldn't be surprised to see a new state record here. No one else is close to the top 4 as number five in 4A has jumped 11-0. Enders is the best athlete of the group and the defending state champion. She won't give up the title easily. Holbrook could easily have a big day and win too. And then theres Marshalek who has the highest jump all-time in the state but was only 3rd at state last year. Should be a battle in sunny Pasco.
My picks
1. Emily Enders 12-9
Sorry no state record today but does become the first back to back winner in the history of the event.
2. Stevie Marshalek 12-9ÂÂ
Loses the tie breaker
3. Doria Holbrook 12-6
Still has the potential for an even bigger jump
4. Sarah Hegna 12-0
5. Christina Simunds 11-3
6. Rachel Mooney 11-0
7. Katrina Robertson 11-0
Snags a new PR.
8. Jennifer Tiffany 10-6
Reg Hulbert will have his jumper ready to compete at state and snag a new PR.
3A Boys
DJ Brown is the clear favorite but it seems like Thomas Seely just keeps jumping higher with a new PR of 15-6. After these two it will be a tight battle for the remaining spots on the podium. DJ Brown also gets most improved after jumping just 14-9 last year. Still has tons of potential too.
1. DJ Brown 16-1
As long as he is on a big enough pole he'll be good to go. Last week would have made 16-1 but just blew through on his last two attempts.
2. Thomas Seely 15-6
Sorry no PR this week.
3. Ryan Fonda 14-6
Yeah why not give it to the Interlake guy.
4. Loren Duvall 14-6
5. Greg Williams 14-3
6. Justin Clary 14-3
7. Brandon O'Toole 14-0
8. Wes King 14-0
Wow Ashcraft's first season of coaching and he has the top freshman in the state. Having the worst mascot in GH will keep him from going higher.
3A Girls
Alli Moore has been looking awesome and is ready to jump 12+. Lara Jones is the only one officially over 12 however. This field has improved so much since last year that defending champ (and darkhorse again) Courtney Doughty is only ranked 5th.ÂÂ
1. Alli Moore 12-1 (depending on the progression)
First women's state champ for Richard. Tons of potential too.
2. Lara Jones 11-9
3. Piper Patterson
Yeah why not give Lakeside 2-3.
4.. Courtney Doughty 11-6
Comes away from state with another big PR. Good job Coach Schmitt.
5. Lynae Newby 11-3
6. Julie Stone 11-0
7. Stefanie Sternagel 10-9
8. Sarah Jones Ellensburg 10-3
Sorry Ash just couldn't see Tess placing at state.
