3A Dominance

The last couple of years the 3A has dominated the vault. This year Sam Sampson and Jordan Roskelley. Last year Ryan Vu and Beau Carrillo in the boys section and in the girls section 6 of the top 8 marks came out of 3A.

This could just be the role of the dice, sometimes you can roll snake eyes three times in a row. But I was wondering if there could be more to it than that. Could it be that 3A schools hit a sweet spot of having enough good athletes trying it but not so many showing up that it's hard for the coaches to give quality coaching. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or other ideas?

There are just more good coaches in 3A right now.

Do you think that's purely chance or are the better coaches attracted to the smaller schools?

Last year at least there was about 70% of all WA high schools were 3A. Hence the re classification this year. The top 5 girl places at 2A state meet this year were 3A schools last year. 3A still has some phenominal coaches and will still have some of the top marks in the state. I think you will find a more even spread between 3A & 2A, like last year I think there was a girl who jumped 11'6" at the 3A meet and didn't place top 8.

Just chance. A number of these good 3A schools used to be 4A. 3A and 4A schools are both big schools, I can't imagine a coach would notice much of a difference between the two. The differences would be much greater between the schools themselves and between Leagues.
